Why I decided to go to Columbia University for journalism

After a year of working at a small magazine in upstate New York, I decided I needed to get my master’s degree if I wanted to have any hope of advancing in my career. I researched a few different programs and eventually decided on Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. I was drawn to the program’s strong focus on critical thinking and its well-known faculty. In the end, it was the perfect choice for me. If you’re considering applying to a journalism graduate program, here are a few things to keep in mind:

How I prepared my application

What I would have done differently

If I could go back, I would have started preparing for the GRE much earlier. I would have also researched the different programs at Columbia and chosen one that fit my interests better. And finally, I would have saved up more money to afford the tuition!
