Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool still have enough midfielders

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted he still has enough midfielders in his side despite Thiago Alcantara’s early closure in Saturday’s draw against Fulham.

It appears that Thiago is suffering from a hamstring problem and will now be assessed to understand the extent of any damage. But he is currently joined by fellow midfielders Curtis Jones, Nabi Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as being unavailable.

Klopp had previously said in mid-July that there was “no need for a new midfielder” in his team. Despite the setbacks, the Reds boss seems to have not changed his mind.

“I know what will happen now, it’s clear. We said we don’t need a midfielder because we have enough – and we really have enough, but now the problem is that we have to be punished for something which is not really our responsibility because things can happen,” Klopp said, via liverpoolfc.com,

“No one could have imagined that Curtis gets what he gets; it’s nothing serious but he’s a little boy and it’s kind of a stress response. Bodies are like that.

“The prophet is just sick and he will now definitely be back again next week. Oxlade happened early and now with Thiago, which is definitely not good and we will see.”

Klopp, who has in the past rejected calls for a new signing during the injury crisis, is adamant that any transfer should ‘make sense now and in the longer term’.

He explained: “We have midfielders, we still have enough midfielders. It’s not that we lack midfielders, but it’s just that some of them are injured. It’s not a good position, I don’t like it at all, But we have to see how we react to that – but definitely don’t panic.”
